⚠️ Be prepared for an emotional ride—this book doesn’t shy away from deep themes!
✅ What I Loved:
- A unique King Arthur retelling with a fresh, modern twist.
- Bree’s journey is deeply emotional and powerful.
- The magic system is intricate and well-developed.
❌ A Few Drawbacks:
- The pacing slows down in certain areas.
- Heavy world-building (which some may love, others might find dense).
💭 My Thoughts (Spoiler-Free Review)
The moment I picked up Legendborn, I was completely hooked. Tracy Deonn weaves Southern history, generational trauma, and Arthurian mythology into something fresh, bold, and compelling.
Bree is a phenomenal protagonist—she’s intelligent, brave, and deeply relatable. Her journey isn’t just about magic; it’s about grief, identity, and reclaiming power.
The Legendborn Order’s magic system is complex but rewarding. At first, the information overload can be a lot, but once you settle into the story, the reveals are mind-blowing.
Also… can we talk about Sel and Nick?! The tension, the angst—chef’s kiss.
🔥 Favorite Quotes (Because this book has some gems!)
“You are my king now, cariad.”
“And then I unwind her.
One strand for my mother.
One for my father.
One for me.
I unravel the rage until it courses through my veins like fuel in an engine. I let it become a part of me, but not all of me. Hot, scorching pain under my skin, under my tongue, under my nails. I let it spread through me—until there is no more “Before” and no more “After.”
I am her and she is me.”
📌 Should You Read Legendborn?
📢 YES, if you love:
✅ Magic hidden in the real world (*think The Mortal Instruments)
✅ Strong female leads who challenge oppression & tradition
✅ Emotional depth with themes of grief, identity, and belonging
⚠️ MAYBE NOT, if:
❌ You prefer lighthearted fantasy without deep themes.
❌ Heavy world-building slows you down.
⭐ Final Rating: 4.5/5 – A powerful, must-read fantasy with a deep emotional core.
